General Information About the DYFL
- Our youth football league follows the rules of the American Youth Football Organization, which uses the USA Youth Football Rulebook.
- The cost to join our league is $35 dollars per child. This money goes towards childhood obesity prevention in the Detroit Area.
- All the equipment, field time, and office space is paid for by our sponsors.
- All athletes must maintain a 2.0 grade point average to participate. However, if our student-athlete maintains above a 3.0 GPA, the entry fee is waived.
- Our league is made up of five teams. Each team has local sponsors that enjoy giving back to their community, such as singer/songwriter Eminem and business mogul Dan Gilbert.
- Each team has seven regular season games and four to five practice sessions per week. These games are played on Saturday's at 11:00 AM and the next game at 1:00 PM. The games are played on the local high schools football fields, such as Cass Tech, Oak Park, Detroit Crockett, and Hazel Park. A member of our athletic training staff is at each game.
- The top four teams make the playoffs and the championship game is played at Ford Field!
- Because we have five teams, one team has a bye each week. Instead of the kids having a week off, we have them meet with the Detroit Lions Training Staff and players to help teach them more about player safety, the importance of physical activity, and the game of football.
- Also, with the help of the Detroit Lions, we host low cost summer camps where the players in our league can come learn even more about football, being healthy and active, and having fun!
